Reetha (English name: soapnut, soapberry, washnut) is used to wash cloths, hair, to improve the shine of jewels and for medicinal purposes to treat skin diseases and psychiatric disorders.

Botanical name: Sapindus trifoliatus

Vernacular names (names in other languages): Ritha, Reetha, Aritha, फेनिल phenil (as it produces froth), रिष्ट risht, रिष्टक rishtak, Pannankottai, புனலை punalai, பூந்தி punthi, பூவந்தி puvanti, ৰীঠা Ritha.

Benefits:

Reetha is used as the main ingredient in soaps and shampoos. It kills lice, prevents dandruff.
It is used to wash clothes.
It can also be used to wash jewels.
It can be used as an all-purpose cleaner for kitchen, bath, glass surfaces, carpers.
Because of its anti inflammatory and anti bacterial properties, its powder is applied externally to treat boils, scorpion bite, itching lesions.
Used in the treatment of diabetes, skin diseases and obesity etc.

Directions:

If you are using whole reetha, soak it overnight, boil it, mush the soapnut, strain it and use the liquid as laundry detergent, shampoo, soap, dishwasher, for bringing back the shine of the jewels and for any other cleaning purpose. Keep the liquid in a fridge.
If you are using reetha powder, mix it with water and use it as laundry detergent, shampoo, soap, dishwasher and for any other cleaning purpose.
You can add your favorite essential oils to your shampoo or soap.
For shampoo you can also mix reetha, amla and shikakai powder, mix it with water and wash your hear with it.
For washing clothes in a washing machine, dried reetha fruit is tied in a thin cloth and put in the washing machine. It produces froth and cleans it.
For washing clothes by hand, 3-4 fruits are soaked in a bucket of water. Clothes are dipped in it and then washed.
ORAL USAGE is contra indicated during pregnancy, as it is capable of inducing abortion.
